Self-drive car rental at Tan Son Nhat Airport: Rates from 600K/day and how to pick up your car

Just landed at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and want the freedom to get around Ho Chi Minh City during your stay? Self-drive car rental at Tan Son Nhat Airport is worth considering if you have multiple destinations, need privacy, or want to plan your own itinerary without depending on a driver.

At Nhieuxe.vn, customers can choose from 4–7-seat self-drive vehicles, with indicative rates starting from VND 600,000 per day. Nhieu Xe can arrange airport vehicle delivery by appointment. However, the exact handover location, vehicle availability, and delivery or collection fees should be confirmed before booking.

1. Can You Rent a Self-Drive Car and Pick It Up at Tan Son Nhat Airport?

Yes. Nhieuxe.vn provides self-drive car rental services in Ho Chi Minh City and can arrange airport vehicle delivery, allowing customers to collect their cars by appointment without necessarily having to visit a rental office.

For travelers flying to Ho Chi Minh City from Hanoi, Da Nang, or other provinces, collecting a car near the airport can be more convenient than traveling to a rental location before starting their journey.

However, it is important to distinguish between two types of services:

• Self-drive car rental at the airport: You collect the vehicle, drive it yourself, and use it throughout the rental period.
• Airport transfer service: Nhieu Xe arranges a driver to take you from the airport to your registered destination or vice versa.

If you need a vehicle for several days for business, sightseeing, or visiting family, you can explore Nhieu Xe's self-drive car rental service in Ho Chi Minh City.

On the other hand, if you only need a one-way trip from the airport to your hotel or private residence, the Tan Son Nhat Airport transfer service may be more suitable.

2. Self-Drive Car Rental Prices at Tan Son Nhat Airport with Nhieu Xe

Self-drive rental rates at Nhieuxe.vn vary depending on the vehicle model and rental duration. Popular models include the Kia Morning, Hyundai Grand i10, Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz, and Honda CR-V.

Below are some indicative rates published on Nhieu Xe's self-drive car rental page.

Note: Actual rates may vary depending on the rental dates, vehicle model, vehicle condition, and pickup or drop-off location.

Are There Additional Charges for Airport Self-Drive Car Rental?

In addition to the rental rate, customers should check for potential extra charges, such as:

• Airport vehicle delivery or collection fees.
• Parking fees incurred during the vehicle handover.
• After-hours return fees or charges for returning the vehicle later than agreed.
• Fuel costs, road tolls, and ETC electronic toll charges, subject to the rental agreement.
• Cleaning fees or repair costs if damage occurs.

To avoid misunderstandings, ask for a quotation that clearly specifies the rental fee, delivery and collection charges, security deposit, and any excluded costs.

You can view the full vehicle selection and price list on Nhieuxe.vn's self-drive car rental page.

3. How to Pick Up a Self-Drive Rental Car at Tan Son Nhat Airport

Unlike collecting a rental car at an office, airport pickup requires coordination between the customer and the rental provider regarding the timing, handover location, and vehicle inspection.

3.1. Provide Your Flight Details Before Arrival

When contacting Nhieu Xe to book a car, you should provide the following information:

• Flight number and airline.
• Expected landing date and time.
• Arrival terminal shown on your flight information.
• Number of passengers and pieces of luggage.
• Preferred vehicle model and expected return time.

For example, if you are flying from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and landing at 2 PM, and you want to rent a Toyota Vios for three days, provide your arrival time, preferred pickup time, and intended return location when booking so the staff can recommend a suitable arrangement.

3.2. Confirm the Vehicle Handover Location Before Landing

Tan Son Nhat Airport has Terminals T1, T2, and T3. Therefore, customers should check the terminal listed in their flight information and confirm the exact meeting point with the vehicle delivery provider.

Do not assume that a self-drive rental car will be handed over directly outside the terminal exit. Depending on airport operating regulations, parking arrangements, and the delivery method, the meeting point may be in an authorized stopping area or another convenient location near the airport.

Before boarding your flight, save the contact number of the staff member responsible for delivering your car, the meeting-point address, and directions to the pickup location.

3.3. Inspect the Vehicle Before Signing the Handover Record

When you meet the delivery staff, take time to inspect the vehicle rather than simply accepting the keys and driving away immediately.

Important items to check include:

• Exterior condition: front and rear bumpers, body panels, and any existing scratches.
• Tires, headlights, mirrors, and windows.
• Air conditioning, display screen, reversing camera, or parking sensors, if equipped.
• Fuel level and odometer reading at pickup.
• Vehicle documents, rental period, and usage conditions.

Take photos or videos of the vehicle's condition, especially any areas with existing scratches. Agree on the recorded condition with the delivery staff before completing the handover report.

4. Should You Rent a 4-Seater or 7-Seater When Arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport?

Choosing a vehicle based solely on passenger numbers is not enough. For travelers arriving by air, the number and size of suitcases are also important because they directly affect the available luggage space.

4.1. 4–5-Seater Cars

If you are traveling alone, as a couple, or in a small group with limited luggage, models such as the Kia Morning, Hyundai i10, and Toyota Vios are worth considering.

Smaller cars are more maneuverable in busy areas such as central Ho Chi Minh City and are generally easier to park than larger vehicles.

However, mini cars typically have limited luggage capacity. If you are carrying several checked suitcases, let the rental staff know their sizes so they can recommend a suitable vehicle.

4.2. 7-Seater Cars

Models such as the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz, and Honda CR-V may be suitable for families or groups of friends who plan to visit multiple destinations during their trip.

With 7-seater vehicles, keep in mind that using all three rows of seats can reduce the available luggage space.

For example, a family of five carrying four large suitcases should not choose a vehicle based solely on its seating capacity. Ask the rental staff to confirm the actual luggage space before booking.

4.3. Choose a Vehicle Based on Your Itinerary After Leaving the Airport

In addition to passenger numbers and luggage, your itinerary also influences which vehicle you should choose.

If your itinerary includes destinations outside Ho Chi Minh City, confirm the permitted travel area, mileage limits, and rental conditions before setting off.

5. How to Book a Self-Drive Rental Car at Tan Son Nhat Airport Through Nhieuxe.vn

To minimize waiting time after your flight, contact the rental provider in advance and finalize the vehicle selection, rental rate, required documents, and pickup time.

Step 1: Contact Us to Book a Vehicle

Call or message us on Zalo at 0707 247 777. Provide your landing time, rental duration, preferred vehicle model, and return location.

Step 2: Receive Advice and a Quotation

Our staff will check vehicle availability based on your requirements, explain the rental rate and conditions, and arrange an appropriate airport pickup or delivery option.

Step 3: Prepare Your Documents and Confirm the Rental Agreement

The renter must prepare valid identification, a valid driving license appropriate for the vehicle, and the security deposit required by Nhieu Xe.

Document requirements, deposit arrangements, and payment methods will be confirmed under the specific rental agreement.

Step 4: Collect the Vehicle at the Agreed Meeting Point

After landing, proceed to the agreed location, inspect the vehicle, review the handover record, and complete the pickup procedures.

Step 5: Return the Vehicle at the Agreed Time

At the end of the rental period, return the vehicle to the confirmed location. Both parties will inspect its condition, fuel level, and mileage and reconcile any charges according to the rental agreement.

6. Important Things to Know When Renting a Self-Drive Car at Tan Son Nhat Airport

6.1. Allow Time to Collect Your Luggage After Landing

Your aircraft's landing time does not necessarily mean you can collect your rental car immediately. After landing, you still need time to move through the terminal, collect your luggage, and complete any necessary procedures.

If you are arriving on an international flight or carrying several checked suitcases, discuss in advance how long you expect it will take to reach the vehicle handover point.

6.2. Confirm What Happens If Your Flight Is Delayed

A flight delay may prevent you from collecting your rental car at the agreed time.

If you receive an updated flight schedule, contact Nhieu Xe as soon as possible and provide your flight number and revised arrival time so the team can check whether the vehicle delivery schedule can be adjusted.

In particular, ask whether rescheduling will affect the rental rate or incur waiting fees. Do not assume that a free rescheduling policy for chauffeur-driven services also applies to self-drive rentals.

6.3. Plan Your Return Time Before Your Departure Flight

If you plan to return the car at the airport, allow extra time for the vehicle inspection, key handover, settlement of additional charges, and travel to the terminal for check-in.

For example, if your flight departs at 4 PM, avoid scheduling your vehicle return too close to your check-in time. Agree on a handover time that accommodates your flight schedule and the airline's instructions.

6.4. Read the Insurance and Vehicle Usage Conditions Carefully

Before collecting the car, review the insurance coverage, your financial liability in the event of a collision, incident reporting procedures, and circumstances that may incur additional charges.

If an incident occurs while using the vehicle, contact Nhieu Xe's hotline immediately for instructions rather than arranging repairs independently without prior approval.

7. When Should You Choose a Self-Drive Rental or an Airport Transfer Service?

Although a self-drive rental gives you greater control over your itinerary, it is not always the most economical or convenient option.

For example, if you are visiting Ho Chi Minh City for three days and plan to visit multiple destinations on a flexible schedule, renting a self-drive car may give you greater freedom.

On the other hand, if you only need to travel from the airport to District 1 and plan to get around mainly on foot or by public transport, renting a car by the day may be unnecessary.

In this case, Nhieu Xe also offers airport transfer services with vehicles ranging from 4 to 45 seats, allowing customers to choose an option that suits their group size and itinerary.
